State Conference
The first State Conference for several years was planned for June 2020, but COVID 19 resulted in its postponement until June 2021. The event will be held in Adelaide and run for two days, incorporating sessions for both production and retail sectors featuring expert speakers.
It is intended to hold state conferences every second year from now on.
CLIPPINGS
This is the monthly e-newsletter that keeps members, stakeholders and friends of the nursery & garden industry aware of what’s happening across South Australia and within NGISA.
NGISA Nursery Notes
The e-Nursery Notes are produced from time to time to keep members informed about important issues of concern to them.
Facebook Forum
NGISA has a dedicated page for NGISA members only to share information and to stay abreast of issues of concern to the industry.
“What’s Growing On”
We produce a bi-monthly colour printed newsletter for the industry. It is designed to be read by owners and employees of member businesses, industry stakeholders and councils throughout SA and is posted to over 400 subscribers.
The newsletter welcomes advertising from industry members and is at very affordable prices. Classified advertisements from members are free.
SALIFE Gardens & Outdoor Living Magazine
The Nursery & Garden Industry SA is partner with Solstice Media to produce a quarterly full colour magazine designed for widespread distribution across South Australia. Members of NGISA contribute articles to the publication so it is very relevant to the SA home gardener.
Garden centres are provided with copies to sell or use as a marketing tool to promote gardening in South Australia.. The magazine is also sold through in newsagents. It is the ultimate way to get your garden product noticed by gardeners across our target markets.

NGISA has negotiated a special rate for its members with Bradbrook Lawyers for any legal matters.
Industrial Relations and business advice: Workplace Partners
NGISA operates under the Nursery Award 2010 (MA000033). Copies of the award are available online from Fair Work Australia.
NGISA utilises the skills and knowledge of Arvin Bisbal from Workplace Partners to assist in any matters relating to Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Workplace Safety and Workers Compensation.
Education and Training
Occasional workshops are facilitated by NGISA. These workshops are designed specifically for the Nursery and Garden Industry and include professional development and marketing and technical advice. These are offered at special rates to members.
Insurance
Arthur J Gallagher& Co. insurance brokers have developed the “Nursery Pac” which is specifically designed for members of the nursery industry. NGISA has negotiated competitive and relevant insurance policies rates.
NIASA Members also attract a 10% discount for business insurance.
Trade Day
Trade Day is a vital feature within the NGISA network where wholesalers and allied traders display, promote and sell their products to retailers. Exhibitors include green life growers, allied traders, manufacturing agents and affiliated industries from SA and beyond.
Trade days are usually held in Autumn and Spring each year underneath the grandstand at Morphettville Racecourse at Morphettville, with a third sometimes held in late spring or early summer.
Awards of Excellence
NGISA’s premier promotion acknowledges the industry’s highest achievers and all members are eligible to enter. The awards are presented annually at what has become the industry’s most prestigious social event. The Awards for 2020 will be presented on February 19 at the Stamford Grand Adelaide at Glenelg.
Greenlife Industry Australia (GIA) represents the interest of the industry at a national level including:
Nursery Production Farm Management System (FMS)
This program is administered by GIA and includes the Nursery Industry Accreditation Scheme Australia (NIASA), Ecohort and Biosecure HACCP systems.
Plant Health Diagnostic Service
Grow Help Australia (DAF Qld) have accessed Nursery Industry Levy funds to create a program which offers:

➢ Production of pest and disease management literature
➢ Training
Australian Garden Centre Accreditation Scheme (AGCAS)
The Australian Garden Centre Accreditation Scheme (AGCAS) is an GIA scheme designed to encourage and recognise excellence in garden centre retailing. South Australia has 13 retail garden centres accredited under this national best practices scheme. AGCAS Members in SA benefit from promotional and advertising activities supplied to them by the NGISA Office, along with a yearly audit.
Improve Your Plant Life Balance
The Improve Your Plant Life Balance program is the promotional campaign developed through the Nursery Industry Levy and which is also promoted in South Australia by the NGISA.
Greener Places Better Spaces
What was the 202020 Vision project has become ‘Greener Places Better Spaces’ which is a program working with organisations and businesses to grow more and better green spaces in Australia’s urban areas. It is managed by Hort Innovation on behalf of the nursery and garden industry utilising the Nursery Industry Levy and Australian Government funding. The program includes extensive stakeholder relations.
